Sweetly Sleeping.

LINES SUGGESTED BY THE RECENT DEATH

OF A YOUNG LADY

By David Fletcher Hunton.

She is sleeping!  Sweetly sleeping

In the arms of Mother Earth;

Sleeping!  While her soul has blossomed

Into an immortal birth.

Sleeping, where the springtime glories

Near her grave will shortly press;

Sleeping, while her friends will cherish

Mem’rys of her loveliness.

Sleeping, where the rose will blossom,

Where the birds will come and sing;

Sleeping, where the old lake’s music,

O’er her tomb is echoing.

Sleeping, where September’s sunshine,

Bathes “Lake Forest” with its gold;

Sleeping, where the flaming maples

Tremble in the frost and cold.

Sleeping, only to awaken

In the “Everlasting Arms;”

Sleeping, ‘till in Eden’s splendors,

She unfolds her angel charms.
