My Wife and I Together.

(By David Fletcher Hunton)

Away on the river of Time we float,
My wife and I together.
Gliding along in our frail little boat,
My wife and I together.
Sailing afar to the beautiful gates,
Away where our mansions in glory waits:
Where Eden, in her magnificence lies,
And the glories of heaven will greet the eyes,
Of wife and I together.

Adown this turbulent river we go,
My wife and I together.
Approaching the harbor of heaven, we know,
My wife and I together.
There are verdurous banks on either side,
And sweet smelling flowers clear down to the tide:—
Bright gleams of glory are lighting the way,
Into the Haven, where we are to stay;
My wife and I together.

There on the shores of the beautiful land,
My wife and I together,
Will walk on the streets of the “Golden Strand”—
My wife and I together.
Where the fair “Tree of Life,” with branches wide,
Scatters “Healing Leaves” on every side:
And we can there wander, in fancy free,”
Along on the shores of the Jasper Sea—
My wife and I together.

There in the balm breathing Gardens of God,
My wife and I together;
Can walk where the ransomed of earth have trod;
My wife and I together.
Away on the Evergreen mountains high,
Where the sweet fields of the Infinite lie;
We will meet ones more in the world above
The dear ones we’ve held in our arms of love—
My wife and I together.
